Ms CLAYDON (Newcastle—Deputy Speaker) (16:38): I want to recognise an extraordinary Novocastrian whose determination and community spirit embody the very best of our region. Recently, Newcastle personal trainer Scott Hingston completed a remarkable challenge, running more than a thousand kilometres from Brisbane to Newcastle in just 12 days. But this feat was about far more than endurance.
Scott undertook this journey to raise funds for Buildcare, an organisation that helps deliver accessible housing for people living with spinal cord injuries. Along the way, he visited schools and spoke to young people about resilience, goal setting and the power of believing in yourself. Many in our community already know Scott from his previous fundraising efforts, including raising funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation and the Hunter Valley Bus Crash Appeal.
Once again, he has used his passion and determination to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. His achievement is not just measured in kilometres covered or funds raised. It is measured in the lives touched, the awareness created and the inspiration he has provided to people across our community.
In a world that sometimes feels divided, people like Scott remind us of the strength of community, the importance of giving back and the extraordinary things that ordinary Australians can achieve.
