Senator KOVACIC (New South Wales) (11:28): At the request of Senator Bragg, I move: That the following matter be referred to the Economics References Committee for inquiry and report by 25 November 2026: Foreign currency loans (FCLs) issued by Australian banks, with particular reference to: (a) the issuance of FCLs in the 1980s; (b) the economic and consumer basis for FCLs; (c) the governance of FCLs by Australian banks; (d) responses to any complaints relating to FCLs; (e) compensation arrangements; (f) any outstanding claims for compensation; (g) historical laws governing FCLs and their enforcement; (h) law reform opportunities; and (i) any other related matters.

The PRESIDENT: The question is that business of the Senate No. 1, standing in the name of Senator Bragg, be agreed to.
