STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Mr SOON (Banks) (13:48): All members of the House will be aware of the outstanding community work and fundraising that Lions Clubs do all around our country and all around the world. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge one such Lions Club in my community, the remarkable Lugarno Lions, who have joined us today in the gallery. The Lugarno Lions are one of the most active Lions clubs in Australia, have been serving the community for more than 50 years and, in that time, have raised more than $3.8 million for local causes, including providing significant support to local community organisations.

The Lions also run a regular breakfast club at Hannans Road Public School, and each year put on their iconic spring fair, which has grown to become the largest carnival in southern Sydney and second only to the Sydney Royal Easter Show in size. A delegation of 15 Lugarno Lions and partners has joined us here today, led by the current president, Mike Warner. Thank you for everything you do in our community.

I sincerely welcome you to the House and I proudly wear my Lions badge here in the chamber today.
