Mr KENNEDY (Cook) (13:50): The Prime Minister has lost the public debate on gambling advertising. Six weeks ago I saw him stand at this very dispatch box and say he would never amend his gambling bill. Last week, the Prime Minister's office briefed out that he would never amend the gambling bill.

But the Senate inquiry—a Senate inquiry the Labor Party voted against—exposed two glaring problems with the bill. Firstly, it did nothing on inducements, and we heard about cocaine and about prostitutes. Secondly, it allowed unlimited advertising online, during live sport and in breaks scheduled and unscheduled.

Negotiations are underway. I'm not privy to them, but I have full confidence in Sarah Henderson and Angus Taylor. They will look to address those two glaring gaps—inducements and unlimited gambling advertising online.

No-one wants to ban gambling advertising. I thank Sarah Henderson, Pat Conaghan—the deputy chair of the Murphy review—from the Nationals, Andrew Wallace and many coalition members who wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister 12 weeks ago calling out his shameful record on gambling. I have full confidence.

The last thing is that there should be an independent review after the next election of wherever we land, so we can do more.
