Mr LITTLEPROUD (Maranoa) (13:53): The coalition stands with the over three million households that are waiting today, with their breath held, for what the RBA will do in about 40 minutes time, to see whether they'll add another 25 basis points to interest rates. They are the lived experience and the human toll of the Albanese government. They have already forked out more than $30,000 a year more since Anthony Albanese and the Labor government came into power, because this government has been unable to manage its spending.
They are spending over $189 billion extra every year since coming to government in 2022. That has an inflationary impact. That has an impact on the RBA.
The RBA is independent and is reactionary to the actions of this government. When this Treasurer loses control of the chequebook and continues to spend, Australian households continue to pay. This is the human toll of Australians.
Tonight, there'll be some Australians that will not be able to put dinner on the table because their mortgage payments still need to be made—and those are $30,000 extra a year because of a government that's lost control of the economy. They have lost control of our borders. They have lost control of this nation.
It is time for this government to acknowledge that the fundamentals of this country need to be fixed. Until they do, there will be the human toll of every mortgage payer that, every month, will look with bated breath to see what the RBA may do.
