CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS
Mr KENNEDY (Cook) (16:23): I'd like to congratulate Sutherland Shire councillor, environmentalist and good local citizen Kal Glanznig on the release of his new documentary The Plastic Country. Kal's commitment to protecting our oceans began in Cronulla and it has now grown into a full national campaign. His film follows the impact of plastic pollution from our local beaches to remote communities, wildlife hospitals and Parliament House.
It also highlights the impact of plastic pollution on human health and Kal's own health. Importantly, The Plastic Country does more than highlight the scale of the problem. Kal, true to his nature, focuses on practical solutions and Australians already working to reduce plastic pollution, protect our environment and protect their health from plastic harms.
Congratulations, Kal. I congratulate the Taren Point Titans junior rugby league football club on being named the 2026 New South Wales Community Rugby League Club of the Year. This recognition celebrates far more than the success that they have had on the field; it recognises a club that is building respect, inclusion and community through grassroots sports.
The Titans' culture and heritage round brought together more than 180 people. It celebrated the backgrounds of local families through 38 flags and through food, dance and cultural ceremonies. I'd like to congratulate club president, Jay Te Wao, who was named the 2026 central Sydney volunteer of the year.
Jay is not only the president; he serves as gear steward, first-aid officer and ground manager while helping prepare and pack down the field each week. Congratulations, Jay. Congratulations to the coaches, the players, the parents, every volunteer—I know there are many at Taren Point Titans—and especially the rest of the executive: secretary, Leah McGregor; senior vice-president, Kane McGregor; vice-president, Caine Chin Poy; treasurer, Louise Kubina; and assistant secretary, Kim Chin Poy.
I want to recognise Tony Noun for the important role he has played in strengthening cancer care in the Sutherland Shire. For almost 15 years, Cancer Care Southside has provided vital support and treatment for local patients. Now, that work is entering a new chapter, with plans for a comprehensive radiation oncology service in the Sutherland Hospital precinct, using state-of-the-art technology.
Tony, I thank you for the lives you're saving in the Sutherland Shire, I thank you for the investment in the Sutherland Shire and I thank you for what you've done not only for the Sutherland Shire but at cancer clinics all around the country. I'm proud to know you and proud to call you a friend. Thank you.
