STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms LE (Fowler) (13:30): Last month, on 21 July, I had the privilege of attending the seniors' concert at the Liverpool Catholic Club. I was honoured to stand with our local seniors, to celebrate them and to recognise what the older generations give to our community. Our seniors carry a wealth of wisdom, culture and life experience that enriches every one of us across Fairfield and Liverpool cities.

Gatherings like this matter. They bring people together and build a real sense of belonging. For many of our seniors, particularly those from migrant and refugee backgrounds, they are a lifeline against isolation.

The energy in that room was something special. The live band played the classics and, before long, people were up dancing in front of the stage. I enjoyed speaking with so many of the people there that afternoon.

The staff were exceptional, warm, welcoming and gently coaxing everyone onto the dance floor. And I have to say, the catering there at the club was excellent. It is occasions like this that keep our community ties strong and ensure our elders feel valued and not forgotten.

I thank the Liverpool Catholic Club—its board, the executive—the organisers, the performers and the hardworking staff of Liverpool Council for organising this seniors concert for our community. To our seniors: you built this community. We see you and we are better for it.
