Ms CLAYDON (Newcastle—Deputy Speaker) (13:31): Today is a great day for Newcastle and the Hunter and a great day for Australian manufacturing. I want to acknowledge the Albanese and Minns Labor governments for securing the future of Tomago Aluminium and for saving more than a thousand direct jobs and thousands more across the Hunter's supply chain. I also want to give a shout out to my Hunter colleagues—the members for Paterson, Hunter and Shortland.

We have fought together to ensure Tomago's future is secure. Most importantly, thank you to the workers of Tomago, and to the ETU, the AWU, the AMWU and Hunter workers who have stood together and fought for these jobs and this industry. This is about more than saving a world-class aluminium smelter; it's about sovereign manufacturing and making sure Australia can make the things that we need here at home.

Aluminium is critical to our future and to building homes, transmission lines, solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles and the technologies that will power our clean energy economy. Backing Tomago means backing good local jobs, stronger regional communities and a stronger, more sovereign Australian economy. This is a massive win for the Hunter, a great win for Australian manufacturing and a really big vote of confidence in our region and our future.
