STATEMENTS ON INDULGENCE

Mr ALBANESE (Grayndler—Prime Minister) (14:00): A short time ago, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting with His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Brunei. We discussed our shared ambition for a peaceful, stable and prosperous region underpinned by free trade, freedom of navigation and, of course, ASEAN centrality. Crucially, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to work together to strengthen energy supply chain resilience.

This is of the utmost importance. Our meeting today follows on from my visit to Brunei in April, where His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam and I agreed to strengthen energy and food security to support the flow of essential goods between our two countries—including petroleum oils, agriculture and agrifood essentials, and key agricultural inputs such as urea.

Since the April visit and the broader engagement in the region with our partners, Australia has maintained strong fuel and fertiliser stocks despite ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East. This is one more reminder of the importance of our government's work in rebuilding and strengthening our relationships with the nations in our region. That friendship and cooperation with our neighbours such as Brunei puts Australia at the front of the queue when the pressure is on, and in times of global uncertainty this matters more than ever.

The Crown Prince is now travelling to Sydney, where he will have other engagements. He has met with Her Excellency the Governor-General. We wish him all the very best for a safe and fruitful journey here, and we wish him all the very best on a safe journey home as well.
