CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS

Ms MADELEINE KING (Brand—Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia) (09:57): The federal and state Labor governments are continuing to deliver for my electorate of Brand, which is why I'm so pleased that my friend Georgia Tree is standing for the seat of Secret Harbour in the upcoming state by-election. Port Kennedy sits in my electorate, and for nine years I was able to represent Secret Harbour, Golden Bay, Singleton and Karnup before a redistribution.

I know that Georgia will make a fantastic local representative for those suburbs as well as for Lakelands and Madora Bay. Georgia grew up in the area. She went to Warnbro Primary School and the Warnbro Community High School.

Her father worked up the road at Alcoa and raised Georgia and her brother, Callum, alone on a sparky's wage after her mother died of cancer. Georgia is a fighter, and she is a true local. She has always fought for real cost-of-living relief and for delivering health and transport infrastructure that the residents and the businesses of Secret Harbour need and deserve.

I was really proud and pleased to stand alongside Georgia to announce the next phase of the widening of the Kwinana Freeway, a $700 million project jointly funded by state and federal Labor governments. It's projects like this that have real impacts on people's lives. It will mean that people in Brand and in the suburbs of Secret Harbour will spend less time on the road and more time with their families and friends at home.

Like me, Georgia is passionate about tackling the cost of living for locals, and that's why Labor is delivering tax cuts for every Australian worker. We are strengthening Medicare and boosting bulk-billing, so now there are more bulk-billing clinics in Secret Harbour. We are making free TAFE permanent, which means more tradies are able to train and build the homes we need and will have great jobs into the future.

We are making child care cheaper and are extending paid parental leave. Labor's state and federal governments are committed to AUKUS and to the upgrades of HMAS Stirling, and we are delivering unprecedented levels of support and funding to improve the lives of veterans and their families by slashing waiting times for veterans' compensation claims. Can I thank the Port Kennedy RSL for all they do for veterans in our community.

We are ensuring real wage increases so that you earn more and you get to keep more of what you earn—for all of those who live and work in Secret Harbour. Georgia understands how important all of these things are for the people of Secret Harbour, and she has been fighting for them her whole life. As she has said, without Labor's Medicare, her mother's cancer treatments would have bankrupted her family.

Without Labor's support of TAFE, her father would not have been able to retrain and provide for her and for Callum. Georgia understands Labor values because she has lived them all her life. Only Georgia Tree can deliver real outcomes for the people of Secret Harbour.
