Crimes and Other Legislation Amendment (Omnibus No. 1) Bill 2026

Senator CASH (Western Australia—Leader of the Opposition in the Senate) (10:12): We are, as we know, in the continuation of a committee stage. Minister, yesterday during the committee stage, I asked you—and I've got the Hansard in front of me—some questions in relation to the employment of the current CDPP, and you said you'd get back to me. I just don't know if you've been able to do that.

I also said: Is it not the case that the director of the CDPP worked as counsel assisting the special investigator to investigate war crimes, and that she is now in charge of prosecuting war crimes? Your response was: I don't have that information with me. I can certainly take it on notice and try to get back to you.

That is not the reason that this provision has been included in this bill, but we will certainly endeavour to get as much information for you as possible. Given it has been some time since we had that exchange, have you been able to get that additional information for me—please?
