Dr TRISH COOK (Bullwinkel) (13:46): Last Friday, Minister Keogh, Steven Price MLA and I visited the Tonkin Highway Corridor interchange upgrade projects, and we saw firsthand the significant work that's under way to improve one of the most crucial transport links in the east of Perth. These upgrades are a major investment in the future of our communities, helping to reduce congestion and travel times for both commuters and freight operators, improve safety and support economic growth across our rapidly expanding eastern suburbs.
The Australian government is proud to be partnering with the Western Australian government on this important project, contributing $333 million towards the upgrades and recently providing a further $40 million to support the delivery of these critical works. Investing in infrastructure like this doesn't just create jobs during construction. It lays the foundation for our future growth.
It strengthens local economies and ensures our transport networks can meet the demands of the future. The Australian government is committed to building Australia's future, and the Tonkin Highway Corridor upgrades are a clear example of that commitment in action.
