Ms CAMPBELL (Moreton) (13:58): When you think about public policy failures through history, what comes to mind? Some of you might be thinking about WorkChoices, the legislation that stripped away working Australians' rights, and some of you might be thinking about robodebt, which had a significant and profound psychological impact on many of our most vulnerable Australians, but not Senator Bragg.
No, Senator Bragg reckons it's superannuation, and he called it 'one of the biggest public policy failures since Federation'. It gives you a real insight into how this opposition, how the coalition and how One Nation think about superannuation, because the target of their policy contempt is a system built on fairness and sustainability. The target of their policy contempt ensures long-term economic security for Australians, and the target of their policy contempt ensures dignity in retirement.
What really grinds their gears is the fact that the largest pot of capital in this country sits with working people. On this side of the chamber, Labor are the proud inventors of superannuation. We're backing it in with payday super.
We're backing it in with super on paid parental leave. We're backing it in by boosting the LISTO. While we make superannuation better, all the parties of the right want to do is tear it down.
The SPEAKER: Order! In accordance with standing order 43, the time for members' statements has concluded.
