Ms MILLER-FROST (Boothby) (10:45): Congratulations to artistic gymnast Jesse Moore, who won gold in the men's parallel bars at the recent Commonwealth Games and a further two bronze medals for team and all-around. Jesse grew up in Boothby and is now living here in Canberra, training at the AIS. Gymnastics SA, which is based in Boothby, is inordinately proud of all he's achieved.
Congratulations also to swimmer Matthew Temple, who took home an amazing four medals—including gold in the men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay and the mixed 4 x 100 metre medley relay—and to Jasmin Fullgrabe, a member of the Marion Swimming Club, who placed fourth in the women's 100-metre backstroke S9 final. Australia has led the medal count for 15 out of 22 Commonwealth Games, since the games first started in 1930, and we continue to lead the all-time Commonwealth Games medal tally.
This year, our athletes once again proved unstoppable as we topped the medal table with a total of 171 medals, including 70 gold. Big congratulations to the Boothby athletes and to all the Australians who participated in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In July, I was again proud to host the Boothby Volunteer Service Awards, celebrating the generosity and hard work of our volunteers here in Boothby.
Congratulations to all the volunteers who received awards, representing a range of organisations across Boothby: Alex Galanos, and Di and Steve Camilleri, from Coastal Districts little athletics; Tracey Grigg and Indra Vithiananthan from Grow SA; Christopher Tyerman and Simon Cole from Somerton Yacht Club; Colin Camac from MarionLIFE; Leila Rodeghiero from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls; Beverley Manns from Seacliff Recreation Centre; Dr Richard Le from Doctors for the Environment; Anne Day from the Holdfast Bay Rotary club; Russ Stovall from Glenelg Bowling Club; Julie Robbins, and Samantha and Nick Wilks, from Minda; Clint Garrett from Friends of Waite Conservation Reserve; Jason Hughes from the Belair park run Man Walk and Blackwood Ukulele Group; Paul Conroy from Marion Swimming Club; Maggie Turner from Marion Art Group; Rod Ellis from the Brownhill Creek association; and Rosalie Hancock from Kickstart for Kids.
As of the last census, 14.1 per cent of Australians volunteered. But in Boothby it's 18.1 per cent, and our community is stronger, safer, more diverse and more connected thanks to the amazing work that they do. Recipients of the volunteer service award demonstrated a commitment, a selflessness and a spirit of service that have made a lasting impact in the Boothby community, and they're an inspiration to us all.
