Crimes and Other Legislation Amendment (Omnibus No. 1) Bill 2026
Senator CASH (Western Australia—Leader of the Opposition in the Senate) (19:03): I think the point of the question is that, when a conflict is currently declared by the CDPP and another person is appointed in that place to discharge those particular duties, is there a current notification process whereby the parliament finds out or the public find out? And, in relation to the new notification process whereby it's the Attorney-General who's making the appointment, at the point in time when that is made, is there a requirement to notify the parliament and the public et cetera, or is it just something the Attorney-General appoints and, as you said, three times a year at estimates, we might find out that there was an actual conflict that the CDPP declared to the Attorney-General and the Attorney-General has now formally appointed another person to take on the duties of the CDPP in relation to that matter?
How do we find out?
