MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The SPEAKER (15:13): I have received a letter from the honourable member for Ryan proposing that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely: The need to acknowledge that Australians are paying the price of privatisation, that privatisation has delivered nothing but pain for Australians through privatised profits, higher costs, and worse services, and that essential public services must return to public ownership.

I call upon those honourable members who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places. More than the number of members required by the standing orders having risen in their places—
