QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE: TAKE NOTE OF ANSWERS
Senator WHITTEN (Western Australia) (16:09): I move: That the Senate take note of the answer given by Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Senator McAllister) to a question without notice I asked today relating to veterans. Today, on Vietnam Veterans' Day, we honour Australians who put their lives on the line for our freedom. One Nation, our families and our followers say thank you for your service.
Yet, while we honour their sacrifice, Labor is making veterans fight another battle: accessing the care they need. The 2026-27 budget caps allied health services at just $5,000 a year. For veterans in regional and remote Australia, that cap can be swallowed up by simply getting to their treatment.
Money spent on travel is money they cannot spend on healing. Yesterday, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs refused to reconsider. We asked these men and women to put their lives, health and futures on the line for our country.
Yet, when they come home carrying the wounds of service, Labor puts a price on their recovery. This is a disgrace. Labor must scrap this cap and stand by our veterans.
