DOCUMENTS

Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (15:58): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator GALLAGHER: The government will not be supporting this motion.

We have well-established regulatory frameworks and robust mechanisms governing the development, manufacture, marketing and supply of therapeutic goods. These processes put public health front and centre whilst also balancing transparency with the need to protect commercially sensitive and confidential information. Requiring the publication of these documents would cut across that established framework and could create an adverse precedent that may discourage industry from bringing medicines to the Australian market.

The PRESIDENT: The question is that general business notice of motion 625, standing in the name of Senator Antic, be agreed to.
