COMMITTEES

Dr LEIGH (Fenner—Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury) (10:01): I move: That, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Works Committee Act 1969, it is expedient to carry out the following proposed work which was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works and on which the committee has duly reported to Parliament: Australian Federal Police—Proposed Fit-out of Leased Premises, 949 Ann Street Brisbane.

The Australian Federal Police seeks parliamentary approval to fit out a new purpose-built facility which the AFP will lease from July 2029. The facility is located at 949 Ann Street, Brisbane, and will allow for the consolidation of AFP operations from its two existing premises at 45 Commercial Road, Newstead, and 180 Alfred Street, Fortitude Valley. The estimated total cost of the works is $89.3 million, excluding GST.

The proposed works were referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works on 23 March 2026. Following its inquiry, the committee recommended that the House of Representatives resolve that it is expedient to carry out the proposed works. Subject to parliamentary approval, construction is expected to commence in mid-October 2027 for practical completion by July 2029.

On behalf of the government, I'd like to thank the committee, ably chaired by the member for Makin, for undertaking a timely inquiry. I commend the motion to the House. Question agreed to.
