Universities Accord (Opening the Doors of Opportunity) Bill 2026

Mr CLARE (Blaxland—Minister for Education) (10:50): I thank the member for Warringah for her support for this important bill. As I said in response to the amendments moved by the member for Curtin, I am very open to considering sensible and appropriate amendments. As has been said in this debate on Monday, the Senate Standing Committee on Education and Employment will hear from the sector and other stakeholders.

I suspect that amongst the evidence that they will hear, there will be similar arguments to the ones that you have just presented to the House of Representatives. I look forward to their report in due course and the recommendations that they present to us for improvements to the bill, but I'll wait to see that report before considering further amendments. As such, the government won't be supporting these amendments today.
