Ms FERNANDO (Holt) (13:49): Last Saturday I attended the Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs' Night in Clyde hosted by the Australia-Sri Lanka Business Forum. The evening brought together entrepreneurs who are building businesses, creating jobs and opening doors between Australia and Sri Lanka. As the first Sri Lankan born member of the Australian parliament, it was deeply personal to see our community's ambition, talent and generosity on display.

Sri Lankan Australians have made a remarkable contribution to this nation. Through hard work and determination, they have strengthened our economy, supported local communities and created opportunities for the next generation. I was delighted to welcome Sri Lanka's Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, the Hon.

Sunil Handunnetti, and discuss deepening trade and investment cooperation between our two countries. The evening was a powerful reminder that when entrepreneurs share ideas, build connections and work together they create opportunities that reach far beyond the business community. I thank President Mano and the entire forum team for organising this fantastic event.

As the Chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Sri Lanka, I will continue strengthening the friendship between our two nations and help create a shared future of opportunity and prosperity.
