Ms BRISKEY (Maribyrnong) (13:59): Every day we are in this building, we on this side of the House are focused on delivering real change for Australians. Of course, I'm focused on what this means for my community in Maribyrnong. I know many in this place—with the exception, perhaps, of the Leader of the House—are pretty excited about getting out of this building and back to our electorates.
For me, that means getting out of the doors tomorrow at Airport West to talk with my electorate about another GP clinic that's opened up the road and is now fully bulk-billing. Because of this government's focus on delivery and our investment into Medicare, we have more than doubled the number of GP practices in Maribyrnong who have gone fully bulk-billing, taking the pressure off local families when it comes to health care that they need.
Not only that, when they perhaps need a script to be filled or they're at that doctor visit, they will pay no more than $25. I'm having a number of conversations with pharmacists across my community about the meaningful difference that this is making in their lives. The contrast could not be starker between those on this side of the House and those opposite.
Let's be honest. When they were in government, they spent nine years weakening Medicare. They wanted people to pay an extra levy to go see their doctor.
They froze the rebate. They saw bulk-billing services in freefall. While they're focused on themselves, we're focused on delivering real change for working Australians.
