Ms BERRY (Whitlam) (16:17): I rise today to thank Neal Reed, principal of Albion Park High School, for his extraordinary contribution to Southern Stars and to the thousands of young people who have been given the opportunity to shine through this remarkable showcase. As executive producer, Neal has played a pivotal role in bringing together an enormous and complex production involving more than 3,500 students from 135 public schools across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, South Coast, Southern Highlands and beyond.

Southern Stars is far more than a spectacular performance. Neal's leadership and the hundreds of teachers who work on this incredible project help create an environment where students can discover their potential. It's an experience that builds confidence, resilience, creativity, friendship and a genuine sense of belonging.

Neal's commitment to this year's 'Take Flight' production has been particularly inspiring. The themes of courage, growth, possibility and embarking on a journey beautifully reflects what Southern Stars offers young people—the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, develop new skills and return from the experience with greater confidence. Neal has said that Southern Stars is about: … creating opportunities for young people to discover what they are capable of, to belong to something bigger than themselves, and to experience the very best of public education.

Neal's generosity, vision, energy, leadership and belief in the power of public education and the performing arts are deeply appreciated. Thank you.
