STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms AMBIHAIPAHAR (Barton) (16:35): I rise to celebrate St George Basketball's incredible 2026 season. The club welcomed record player growth this year while crowds also surged, making it standing room only at the Sutherland stadium for the grand final. Although the young league men narrowly missed out on the title, they earned a promotion to division 1.

Congratulations to everyone, including Ray Barbi. I'm so excited to cheer them on for an even bigger and better 2027. Go the Saints!

Congratulations to Bardwell Park Uniting Church, which celebrated its 85th anniversary on 23 August. I was honoured to join the little church on the hill for a moving service filled with worship, history and hymns. From its beginnings in a weatherboard cottage, the church has grown while remaining committed to serving the local community with faith, generosity and a warm welcome for all.

We are a community of many faiths in Barton, and religion is a thread that brings neighbours together. It's because of places of worship like Bardwell Park Uniting Church that we feel a sense of belonging, purpose, meaning and peace. Thank you to Reverend Junmo Koo for having me there and also to the broader congregation for all that you do in the community.
