Mr KATTER (Kennedy) (14:27): Treasurer, Australian families cannot make ends meet. Household debt is over $300,000—under 50s, $400,000. The hyperinflating cost of living cripples that 25 per cent of Australians trying to raise kids on a single income.

At tax time, families with a stay-at-home mum and three kids struggle by on $15,000 per person, whilst DINKS—double income, no kids—enjoy disposable incomes of $75,000 each. Surely, Treasurer, this is an appalling inequality. Surely family income splitting makes taxation fairer, whilst a $75,000 birthing payment would help arrest Australia's plunging birthrates.
