Treasury Laws Amendment (Strengthening Accountability for Tax Adviser Misconduct and Other Measures) Bill 2026

Senator AYRES (New South Wales—Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science) (18:20): We have proposed the legislation in front of the Senate. It has been the subject of extensive consultation. It's a refinement that, as we indicated in the budget, would occur over time.

It covers a narrow slice of the questions that were in the government's important tax reform package in the budget. I understand that you and colleagues oppose some elements of that and that you will continue to do that, but this is a very straightforward piece of legislation that I urge the Senate to support. On that basis, we oppose Senator Canavan's amendment.
