Mr BUCHHOLZ (Wright) (13:42): It takes a special type of incompetence from a Labor government to throw $67 billion at the housing crisis and still have a trifecta of failure: fewer homes, higher rents and confidence in the market absolutely shattered. Just think about it—that $67 billion is your hard earned taxpayer money. You are right, those who sit in the gallery, to ask the question: are you getting value for money?

Well, let me give you a bit of an idea that you're not getting value. When we left government, we were building 200,000 houses a year. They're not our figures.

They're from the Housing Industry Association. Those on the other side will huff and puff. With the same Housing Industry Association document today, how many houses do you reckon are getting built under this government?

Their data says 173. Labor talk a big game. They come into the chamber and they say, 'Oh, we've got to build more houses; we're going to throw money at it,' but the reality is that fewer houses are being built.

The houses that we do have today are worth less than when these guys came into office. Under the policy fittings that have been brought about, your house today is worth less than it was at budget time. That's a fact.

You cannot trust these guys on the other side of the chamber with your hard earned taxpayer money. They have failed the Australian public. They have failed you.

They're failing every day.
