Mr VIOLI (Casey) (13:53): Well, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I have no doubt the Minister for Housing has good intentions. The problem is the Minister for Housing is failing to deliver for the Australian people—a triple failure.

Rents are up; if you own a home, the value has gone down; and, if you're a first home buyer, it is harder to get into the market today. We've seen this government for four years talk about supply being the main game and about how important it was. Well, that changed when the Prime Minister broke his word to the Australian people when it came to taxing.

Suddenly it wasn't about supply. Fifty times he said he wouldn't break his word, but he did to the Australian people. Those broken promises and lies to the Australian people will deliver 35,000 fewer homes by the government's own budget measures.

Under the coalition, 200,000 homes a year were being built. Under this failed minister and this failed government, 170,000 homes are being built. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

They might think they're up to it, but they are failing the Australian people. And Australians know it. They know it every time they try to buy a house, they know it if they are forced to sell a house, and they know it every time their rents go up and they get a landlord wanting more money.

This government have continued to fail the Australian people, and they're so far in the bubble they don't even realise it.
