STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms CHESTERS (Bendigo) (13:55): I ask the National Party: how is Senator Canavan still your leader after the comments he made about the school curriculum, criticising teachers and saying that it is the feminism of the school curriculum that is fuelling online misogyny? I say this at a time when research from the Office of National Intelligence Research has found young men are the most likely to have expressed hostile and violent attitudes towards women.

This report found 15 per cent of gen Z men said that girls should give guys what they want sexually in a relationship, even if the girls feel they don't like it. This research also found that 24 per cent of gen Z males said women should have children in order to be fulfilled. Another finding was that men should have more jobs than women when jobs are scarce; 23 per cent of gen Z men said this.

And 17 per cent of gen Z men said that marriage contracts generally entitle a husband to have sexual relations with his wife, even if she does not want it. I say again to the National Party: rape against your wife is a crime. It is not in the curriculum, but respect and common decency are.
