Mr NG (Menzies) (13:58): Labor created Australia's superannuation system, providing a secure and dignified retirement for every single member of our community, for every single member of the public gallery and even for those opposite. It's a system that is the envy of the world. Labor will always protect and strengthen super, and that's why our government has raised the super contribution to 12 per cent.

We've delivered payday super, ensuring that super is paid properly and has more chance to compound. We've raised the LISTO, providing a more secure retirement for low-income Australians. And we're paying super on paid parental leave, which has been extended to 26 weeks, further driving down the super pay gap.

The Liberals and Nationals opposed superannuation from the start, and they take every opportunity to undermine it. They let people raid their super during COVID. At the last election, their big idea to help first home buyers was to let people to dip into their retirement savings.

And now One Nation have come out with their so-called super policy, letting people use up to a quarter of their super for three years. For an average worker, this could mean that they'd be $25,000 worse off in retirement—or $50,000 worse off for a couple. We know the member for New England isn't Jesus Christ, but God help the Australian people if the three right-wing parties opposite ever get their hands on their super.
