STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms BELYEA (Dunkley) (13:46): The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission report shared today includes what this government and its agencies have done to address domestic, family and sexual violence in this country. It is also a sobering reminder that more must be done to prevent harm that impacts communities, in particular in Dunkley. I want to thank all those who contributed to this report, the workers on the ground and, more importantly, the victims-survivors who have been relentless in raising their voices, sharing their stories and turning pain into advocacy that drives change.

As someone with lived experience of family violence and 20 years working alongside women and children, we must keep pace with emerging threats. Yesterday's announcement of the digital duty of care to address technology facilitated abuse, the influence of the manosphere and pornography on our children and young people is about reducing harm. The digital duty of care is a critical safety mechanism that I am proud to support, along with local organisations such as Wayne Holdsworth from SmackTalk.

Keeping women and children safe in the community is the responsibility of government, but it is also the responsibility of all of us. We cannot do this alone. I invite all of you to work together with courage and determination to address this issue.
