QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Mr ALBANESE (Grayndler—Prime Minister) (14:42): As I've previously said here, apparently, I'm told, in 2012—14 years ago—I was given an honorary social membership of Marrickville Golf Club. I don't play golf. I leave that to my deputy prime minister who is a very good golfer.

I can talk about tennis all day, but, for them to draw this extraordinarily long bow, I do not have a card as a member of Marrickville Golf Club, I haven't spoken to and don't know who the executive of Marrickville Golf Club are. I used to walk my dog on Marrickville Golf Club, and, I must say as well, I have been to the birthday party for Lewis the Cavoodle and dogs on the fairway of Marrickville golf club.

I have done that. It is known as 'Royal Marrickville' tongue in cheek, sending up Royal Sydney. When I get a membership such as Royal Sydney, it is declared.

The fact is that, in 2012, apparently, they said, 'You're an honorary member.' I don't have a card, I never got anything, I don't use the facilities, and I don't do anything whatsoever for it. But the Inner West Council wants to fix the Cooks River. At the moment, raw sewage flows when there is flooding on the floodplain, which is where the golf course is.

I was involved in a campaign to defend Marrickville Golf Club when some people in the council—the Greens—wanted to stop it being a golf club and wanted it for passive, open space. The SPEAKER: The manager on a point of order? Mr Tehan: It goes to relevance.

It was a very simple question. The Prime Minister was asked, 'Will you update your references so that you declare this appropriately?' The SPEAKER: The Prime Minister did talk about the membership and what's declared, so he was answering that directly. Mr ALBANESE: In 2012 apparently they made some decision to give me an honorary membership.

I'm not aware of anything since in that 14 years—a bit has passed since then—with regard to honorary memberships of the club. But, if you're a good local member, a whole lot of people will give you honorary membership of things. If you're a good local member who stands up for your electorate, that will occur.

When it comes to 'royal' Marrickville Golf Club, as I'll happily call it, I encourage people to join the golf club, to use the facilities there and to engage, because it is a vital local community club. It's one of those local community clubs, as the membership fees show, which is $5 for two years— (Time expired)
