Regulatory Reform Omnibus Bill 2026

Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (13:02): The whole idea behind this amendment is to remove, in a mandatory sense, the requirement to inform people who are not the formal respondent to the proceedings.

The information I have is that, at the moment, if everyone is told, that has incurred costs for individuals who have then sought to protect themselves with legal advice when they are not subject to the proceedings and are not formal respondents in the case.
