Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:59): What I'd say to you, Senator Canavan, is that when those who were in negative equity were around double the number, in terms of the numbers that Ive just quoted to you from when you were in government, I don’t recall you being the champion on this issue.

I don't recall you arguing for a fairer deal for young Australians. The fact is, you are either a government, a party, that believes that you want to extend homeownership to more Australians or a party that says, 'No, we don't think government's got a role in that. We're happy with fewer young Australians getting to the housing market.' Senator Canavan, unfortunately, you and your party and the rest of the right-wing coalition, whether it's the Liberals or One Nation, are all on the same page on this.

You don't want more young people into the housing market. The PRESIDENT: Thank you, Minister Wong. We are at the hard marker of 3 pm.
