PETITIONS

Ms BELYEA (Dunkley) (10:01): There are currently 35petitions open for signatures on the House e-petitions website covering a range of topics including facial recognition technology, visa processing, university fees, support for beekeepers and the National Disability Insurance Agency. More certifications will follow at the committee's next meeting. Since the start of the 48th Parliament, the committee has continued to observe sustained public interest in the petitions process.

Petitioning remains an important part of Australian democracy, and ensuring that Australians can continue to petition the House is of the highest importance. The committee continues it work towards completing the report for the inquiry into the standing orders relating to petitions. I look forward to updating the House further on the work of the Petitions Committee.
