STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms SCRYMGOUR (Lingiari) (13:50): I am proud to represent one of the largest electorates in the country, including all remote communities across the Territory. Those remote communities have fought to be heard in this place. They deserve the right to participate in free and fair elections.

So I was shocked last year when members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church were flown to those communities to intimidate Aboriginal voters on the booths at last year's election. This is a mob with only five members across the entire Territory. What were 40 of them doing on the Katherine prepoll?

How were they in Wadeye, Maningrida, Galiwinku and Nhulunbuy? Where did they come from? Who sent them?

Who paid for their flights and accommodation? And what did they expect in return? We know there was coordination between the Liberal Party and the Brethren ahead of the 2025 election.

It came from the then opposition leader's office. It came from the top of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. It's time that the CLP in the Northern Territory and the Liberals on the other side come clean about what they knew about them in the Northern Territory.
