Mr WALLACE (Fisher) (16:24): Australians are feeling the cost-of-living crisis every single day. They're paying more at the supermarket, more for electricity, more for insurance, more on their mortgages and more on their rents; yet, despite working hard and doing the right thing, many Australians are finding themselves falling further and further behind. I recently heard from a local couple who've done everything right.

They've paid off their home and they've worked hard, yet, under this government, believe it or not, they've told me they now have to shower every second day to save on water and gas. Fresh vegetables and red meat are now a luxury. This is not how Australians should be living, but it is the reality for many under Labor.

Labor talk about helping Australians get ahead, but its record tells a very different story. It has delivered a trifecta of failure: fewer homes, higher rents and shattered confidence. Australia has suffered the largest decline in living standards in the developed world, while Labor has pocketed $65 billion in bracket creep.

The coalition's plan will fix this with lower taxes, cheaper power, controlled migration and more homes. We will ensure more Australians keep more of what they earn, because Australians deserve a government that helps them get ahead, not one that leaves them behind.
