STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Mr WOOD (La Trobe) (16:36): I had the great honour of actually attending the top 50 next generation entrepreneurs and impact leaders awards on Saturday night. I must be honest, I was actually attending with my wife, Judy Cheung-Wood, who is an entrepreneur and was a judge that night. I was eating my entrée, and, next minute, I was invited up as a guest speaker.

So I did talk and thank Kavita Chabra, who has been putting on these amazing events for the multicultural community for the last six years. At this event on Saturday night, I got to see firsthand the amazing young entrepreneurs. On the night, I thanked them for everything they do, employing other people and making Australia great.

I want to give a special mention to Hasrat Gill, who's from my electorate. She is in the Victorian women's cricket team and also the Sydney Thunder and attended there with their mother. It was just a great evening.

Kavita, you put on this incredible event, and you have inspired so many people over the years, especially the multicultural community. It's a really first-class event to see all these young people doing so well, whether it be in business or not. All of them had something in common.

They are all great leaders and are all giving back to their local community. So again, well done, Kavita.
