Mr ALBANESE (Grayndler—Prime Minister) (14:44): I make no apologies for the fact that I stand up for every organisation in my electorate. That's what good local members do, and that is what I do. It has been argued that an announced honorary membership of Marrickville golf club in 2012, 14 years ago, is somehow ongoing— Mr Chester: What's it worth?
Mr ALBANESE: What's it worth? It's worth $5 for two years or $15 for five years or $15 for five years. It says something about the way that the club is run, the fact that it's $2.50 a year for two years but $3 a year if you take out five years of membership.
Until last week I was unaware of this issue. To provide certainty, I've written to the secretary of the Marrickville golf club making it clear I decline any honorary membership of the club. I've also made it clear that, if I'm in a position to visit the club sometime in the future, which I haven't done since my election as Prime Minister, I'd be more than pleased to pay the $5 fee for two years of membership.
