Ms LANDRY (Capricornia—Chief Nationals Whip) (13:41): Australians were promised lower costs, greater certainty and honest government. Instead they have seen broken promises, backflips and a growing gap between what this government says and what it does. Before the election, Australians were promised power bills would be cut by $275.

That promise has not been delivered. We heard 'my word is my bond' on stage 3 tax cuts, only to see that those tax cuts changed. Australians were told negative gearing would not be touched, yet changes followed.

Now we have serious questions surrounding the Prime Minister's links to the Marrickville golf club. More than $6 million in taxpayer funding was promised to the club through Labor's invitation-only grants program. We then learned the Prime Minister was an honorary member, a fact that was not declared on his register of interests.

The Prime Minister says he did not know about the honorary membership, yet in 2019 he publicly spoke about visiting the club for decades. Australians can draw their own conclusions. Australians are seeing a pattern.

Promises are made before elections, but too often they are changed afterwards. Whether it's power prices, tax policy or other commitments, Australians are entitled to expect their leaders to say what they mean and mean what they say. People in communities like Capricornia know when they've been told one thing and they're seeing another.

Australians remember the promises that were made. They know what they are paying at the check-out, at the bowser and on their power bill, and they can decide for themselves whether this government has delivered what it promised.
