Mr LEESER (Berowra) (13:44): Last week we found out that the Prime Minister's favourite local golf club received more than $6 million through Labor's electoral slush fund. The grant was supposed to deal with sewage, but the stench remains. While Labor's going around splashing cash on its favourite mates, people in my electorate are missing out on vital infrastructure under Labor.

New Line Road is the worst bottleneck in my electorate. It's the main link for communities north and west of Pennant Hills Road, and its congestion is getting worse by the day. The Labor government now plans to build thousands of additional homes around the Cherrybrook metro precinct.

This means even more pressure on a road that local residents already describe as dangerous and unfit for purpose. When we were in government, I secured $10 million from the federal coalition to plan for the widening of New Line Road. The former New South Wales coalition government then committed $70 million to widen the road between Hastings Road and Purchase Road.

Then Labor came to office and shelved the project. Our community has waited long enough. If Anthony Albanese can fund millions of dollars for a golf club, he can help fund a road used by everyday families across my electorate.

The Albanese government should put money on the table and help get this project moving. Before thousands more homes are built in Cherrybrook, the infrastructure has to be ready. New Line Road has to be widened.

The people of Cherrybrook, of Dural, of Glenorie and of the suburbs north and west of there have been waiting half a century. It's time to get this done. It's creeping in, and I'm not going to allow it in future.
