STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Mr TEHAN (Wannon—Manager of Opposition Business) (13:56): Yesterday was a harrowing day for the steelworkers at Whyalla. Over 600 of them were told that their jobs no longer existed, yet that night they had to put up with the Minister for Climate Change and Energy going on 7.30 and absolutely gaslighting Australians. This is what he had to say: 'I never quite bought all the hype on green hydrogen.' But he held it out as the green dream that was going to save their jobs.

And what happened? Six hundred people and their families today are facing absolute uncertainty. What do you think the energy minister has done to help try and secure those jobs?

Absolutely nothing. You've got the hardworking local member here fighting for them, trying to get them their jobs back, and what the energy minister is doing is completely gaslighting them, coming up with statements like his green energy dream was going to deliver them jobs, when all it did was give them false hope. Shame on you!
