STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms SHARKIE (Mayo) (13:30): Last Sunday, before returning to Canberra, I had the great privilege of attending the Flight of the Guardians peacekeeper memorial unveiling at the Charleston Community Centre in Charleston in the Adelaide Hills. There were many guests in attendance, including our state member for Kavel, Matt Schulz, and Mr Adam Weinert, who retired lieutenant colonel of the ADF and the President of the Lobethal RSL.

We had Pastor James Troup do a dedication from the Encounter Church at Gawler. And, of course, we had our artists, Adrian and Ann Beacham, who were extraordinary in creating this magnificent piece of art. This was funded by the Department of Veterans' Affairs, and we thank the department for their support from the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

Since 1947, 65,000 Australian peacekeepers have gone to many parts of the world, including South Sudan, Timor-Leste and the Solomon Islands. The work of our peacekeepers has been so incredibly important right around the world. I particularly congratulate the committee, including Veronica, Peter as chairperson and all of the volunteers at the Charleston Community Centre.

Thank you for inviting me.
