STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms FERNANDO (Holt) (13:37): You don't have to be the best at everything, especially Scouts; you just have to be willing to have a go. That ethos is exactly what I love about the Narre Warren South Scout Group and what was on display at their recent annual presentation night. It was a privilege to celebrate the young people and volunteers who were recognised, particularly the recipients of the Grey Wolf Award, the Wood Badge and the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Each of these honours represents significant time, effort and a deep commitment to learning something new. As I confessed on the night, I genuinely wish I had joined Scouts as a kid. To this day, I still don't know how to pitch a tent and I certainly wouldn't trust my own knot-tying.

Scouts give young people the invaluable opportunity to master those practical skills, forge friendships and discover exactly what they are capable of. But none of that happens without the generous people who give up their evenings and weekends. I want to extend a massive thank you to group leaders Tracy and Karl, alongside all the volunteers and families who keep this wonderful group thriving.
