CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS
Mr KEOGH (Burt—Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel) (09:39): A few weeks ago I hosted the biggest ever Burt Volunteer Awards. Our community is so much kinder, stronger and much more connected thanks to the contribution of our volunteers. These awards are important to acknowledge the work of our local volunteers, even though they don't do it for the accolades—that's volunteers across all different areas.
They all deserve a shout out in this place, though, and I've only got three minutes or less to do it, so I'm going to have a crack. From the sports category, we had Eli Nkindi from the Burundian diaspora WA; Richard Mills from the Kenwick Football Club; Harveer Singh from the WA Sikh Sports Club; Courtney Eades from the Canning Vale Firebirds Netball Club; Bruce Javid from the Perth Afghan Football Association; Jolene van Hazendonk from the Bandits Softball Club; Sammie Higgs from the Forrestdale Junior Football Club; Elivia Bragg from the Bletchley Park Netball Club; Julia Scaramella from the Gosnells Hawks Seniors Baseball Club; Samantha Carey from the Dale Hockey Club and Kelmscott Tennis Club; Jenny Gay and Tanya Delleca from the Piara Waters Junior Football Club and the Harrisdale Hawks; and Robert Michael Fisher, Ryan Butcher and Warren Gregson from the Kelmscott Bulldogs Football Club.
In the community services category, we had Pay Pay Lee of the Gosnells Primary School P&C, who featured on the front page of our local newspaper, the Examiner, last week; Ashleigh Botheras from Hope4Change; Davina Watson and Phillip Chinnery from the Armadale-Kelmscott Lions Club; Catherine Hayes of Our Veterans Haven; Mervyn Wilson from the WA 10th Light Horse association; Justin McCann from Public Interest; Susan Meaden and Lester Dent of Minnawarra House; Tony Gilmore of Red Cross and Juniper Hayloft; Pauline England from the Gosnells Women's Collective; Rebecca Gibson and Aprilyn Candy from Scouts Armadale; David Spray of the Lions Club of Gosnells; and Norman Richards of the Maddington Men's Shed.
In the youth category we had Muzamei Tokhi from our local Burt community, Hania Usam from the Armadale-Gosnells Landcare Group and Homestead parkrun; Mehran Arjomand from the Hamdelan Iranian Cultural Centre; Rafia Noor of the Curtin University Law Clinic; Meishu Zhao of the Gosnells Chinese Association; Vaishnav Vijayakumar from Samskruthi Perth; and Syed Mehran Muzzaffar of Ubuntu Australia.
In the multicultural category, we had Bijukumar Prabhakaran from the School of Bagavath Gita; Maher Masri, Rossi Cavali and Mohammed Fouda of the Australian Arab Association; Said Pasha of the Perth Afghan Community; Astit Olszowy from the Perth Indonesian Community; Amandeep Singh of the Punjabi Club WA; Preethi Subananthan and Hema Shankar of the Hindi Language School of WA; Mahtab D'Rozario, Saed Ghavami, Homa Iran-Manesh and Mozghan Rahmani of the Hamdelan Iranian Cultural Community; and Manoj and Shilpa Kasare, Ashish and Swati Chuare, Prakash Indorekar, Swati Mhale, Nilesh Ganvir and Yogita Khandale of the Ambedkarite Buddhist Community.
