QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Ms McBAIN (Eden-Monaro—Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories and Minister for Emergency Management) (15:05): I thank the member for Newcastle for her question—and the member for Riverina for cheering me on! Last week the member for Newcastle and I along with the member for Paterson joined the PM to cut the ribbon on the M1 Raymond Terrace project delivering safe, traffic-light-free travel from Melbourne all the way to Coffs Harbour.

Over the weekend, the road officially opened, and 25,000 vehicles a day are now off local roads. Motorists are saving nine minutes as they travel across the Hunter. Working in the infrastructure portfolio is a little like inheriting an incomplete jigsaw puzzle.

Progress is often being made, but there's always more to do. The road was one of the final pieces of the Pacific Highway puzzle, completing duplication between Sydney and the Queensland border—work that was substantially progressed by the former infrastructure minister Anthony Albanese. The Hunter part of the jigsaw puzzle sat untouched by those opposite in government.

I stood with the member for Paterson in 2022 committing to get the project fast-tracked, and I'm so pleased that we've been able to deliver on that commitment 18 months ahead of schedule. The Coffs Harbour bypass will be the final piece in this puzzle, and I'm so pleased that it is also making great progress and weather permitting will be open before the end of the year.

This will mean you can go from Melbourne to the Queensland border without a single set of traffic lights—great news for our freight industry. Across our 10-year infrastructure pipeline, we're delivering the roads, rail, bridges and tunnels that our communities deserve. In South Australia, the Torrens to Darlington project is transformational.

We've got tunnelling happening underneath Adelaide streets as we speak. In Victoria, the North East Link will complete Melbourne's orbital motorway network. We're also investing in the first stage of Melbourne Airport rail with the Sunshine Superhub and of course the Suburban Rail Loop East as well.

In Queensland, we're seeing unprecedented works on the Bruce Highway. The Rocky Ring Road is making incredible progress. Tiaro is back on track, and that's to be bypassed.

Upgrades are extending towards Brisbane with our investment in Dohles Rocks Road. In WA on 1 November the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge will open, easing the commute or the visit to Cottesloe Beach just in time for the summer. In Tasmania we're funding upgrades on tourist roads.

We're sealing roads across the Northern Territory—like the Plenty Highway, the outer Mereenie Loop, Central Arnhem Road and Santa Teresa Road, finally. Here in the ACT, we're duplicating William Hovell Drive to ease congestion between Belconnen and the city and we're building the Molonglo River Bridge, which is also scheduled to be open before Christmas. These are big investments across the country.

They're providing safer and faster journeys because we're a government that is serious about delivering real change for Australians.
