CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS

Ms COMER (Petrie) (10:39): The Murrumba Downs Medicare urgent care clinic is turning three years old. And what a difference it has made to our community! Whilst the clinic sits just outside of my electorate of Petrie, it serves the families of Griffin, North Lakes and Mango Hill in the thousands.

Whether it's a child who has hurt themselves on the playground or an infection that can't wait for a GP appointment, the clinic is there when locals need it. It's open seven days a week, it's fully bulk-billed and you don't need an appointment. And, might I add, it's also part of a fully bulk-billed GP clinic and is a direct result of the investment that the Albanese Labor government has put into our GP services.

This is what the Medicare urgent care clinic is all about—being able to provide that affordable health care for the locals. It's taking pressure off the local emergency departments. I want to thank the doctors, the nurses and all the other staff who make this clinic such success.

Happy third birthday to the Murrumba Downs urgent care clinic. I have some fantastic news for the people of Redcliffe. Our Redcliffe Medicare Mental Health Centre is expanding.

Its opening last year, which was actually on my birthday, was a fantastic gift for the community. The centre has made an enormous difference to people, meeting their mental health needs right when they need it. And the demand has been huge.

The centre has reached its capacity, and it has become clear that we need to do more. That's why I've been fighting for an expansion. So, 364 days since its opening, I get to announce that we're expanding this clinic to be able to better meet the growing needs of the community.

I think that's something we should all be immensely proud of. Mental health is so important to health outcomes, and we're providing a space where it's walk-in, no appointment needed. This facility is so incredible.

You walk in and it feels like you've walked into a living room. It's so inviting. You can go make yourself a cuppa.

You can sit on the couch. There's some beautiful art as well. And you can reach the services that you need.

I'm extremely proud to stand here and say that we're expanding that service. I know the community is going to be very grateful for this, and I'm very grateful for this. On 3 October, I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating 10 years of the Redcliffe railway line.

It's hard to believe it's already been a decade since the first train arrived at Kippa-Ring station, right into the heart of Redcliffe. People might not know that this railway line had been promised for 130 years. It was first proposed back in 1885.

Many people thought the concept was maybe off the rails, but our signals weren't crossed when Anthony Albanese, who was the infrastructure minister, now prime minister, was able to secure funding for this project. It was due to the advocacy within the community and a great local member for Petrie, Yvette D'Ath. I want to thank them all—and happy birthday, Redcliffe train line.
