STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms CLUTTERHAM (Sturt) (16:19): The Tuckwell Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program in Australia awarded to up to 25 school leavers each year. It offers talented and motivated students the opportunity to realise their potential by providing financial support for three to five years of undergraduate study at ANU. This year, one of the recipients was Gigi Osborne, a year 12 student at Saint Ignatius College at Athelstone in my electorate of Sturt.

I was not surprised that a student from Saint Ignatius was awarded the Tuckwell Scholarship. I have spent time at the college with the year 11 and 12 politics students and can attest that, under the leadership of principal Lauren Brooks and senior teacher Simon Butler, the school is nurturing young adults who are intelligent, confident, empathetic and curious about the world.

Gigi, you being awarded the Tuckwell Scholarship is a recognition of not only your academic excellence and your prowess in debating, as evidenced by you winning the Todd Golding Medal as best speaker in the SA debating team, but also your genuine commitment to your school community, as illustrated by your role as college captain. Your selection is not only a credit to you; it is a credit to your family, your teachers and the wider Saint Ignatius College community.

Gigi, good luck as you study law and international relations in our nation's capital. I'm sure we will hear more about you in the years to come, and maybe we will even see you in this place one day.
