STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Mr CALDWELL (Fadden—Opposition Chief Whip) (16:21): It's with a heavy heart that I rise to deliver a condolence message to the Coomera Cutters Rugby League Club family. To the president, Joe Smith, and all of the members of that club, I am terribly sad for your unimaginable loss of two young boys in the last week. Treyvon Bradshaw, aged 13, a current player, died by suicide on 26 September.

He was remembered by his family for his kind heart, loving nature and passion for footy and sport. Kaiyah Kennedy, aged 12, an alumni of the club, died on 2 October. He was in year 7 at Upper Coomera State College.

He was remembered by his family as a beloved middle child, a mischievous and loving brother and a bright light whose energy could fill any room. This is a club I know well. Back on 20 May 2017, we opened a clubhouse there.

It was the birth of something very special for our northern Gold Coast community. But the club is in shock as a result of these two young boys who have lost their lives. My heartfelt sympathy goes to their families and friends.

It's a terrible and timely reminder of our suicide rate in this country, which at last count was 3,326 in a single year, 2,529 of which were male. This is a shocking statistic and one that I hope we can improve so that clubs and families are no longer impacted like these families were.
