Mr HAMILTON (Groom) (16:32): A quick shout-out to Charlie Moreton and the iconic brand of Moreton & Co. for the Mort's Mates fundraiser we held in our region. It's a great night out, the third iteration of it. They raised money for the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, which is a brain research centre that particularly focuses on the impacts on mental health.
I think it's such an important and crucial conversation we're having. Thank you very much, Charlie, Merida and the team. What do you want to change about Australia?
It's a question that I ask everywhere I go when I knock on doors throughout my electorate. What heartens me is when I speak to the older generation. What they say is they want a better future for the younger generations.
They want there to be structural advantages for being Australians. That's why I'm here, and I think we can bring about that change that Australia needs. I want to raise my concerns and the concerns of many people that I've met doorknocking around not just the AI data centre that's being proposed for Dalby but the actual impact of AI on our community.
These are genuine concerns from people in my electorate. Firstly, on AI, we've seen blue-collar jobs stripped from our regions and I just want to raise their voice. I'm concerned that if we aren't in control of this change we'll see white-collar jobs stripped from our region.
I'm all for good jobs and good pay, and these are genuine concerns of people in my electorate. Speaking with regard to the data centre itself, whilst there are concerns around water, it's a 2.1-gigawatt data centre. If you want to give me 2.1 gigawatts of extra data, I think I'd probably spend it on something more useful.
